‘Tis the Season

The first snowfall always makes me nostalgic for my childhood.  Warm thoughts come flooding back when I start to unpack my decorations and begin to unwrap each ornament to hang on the tree.  Fondly, I recall dancing to the Nutcracker Suite for hours in my Grandparent’s living room while my Grandma baked cookies in the kitchen.  I remember watching the colorful lights sparkle outside, the snow adding a comforting glow to the branches.  I remember slipping into my warm bed and falling asleep while listening to my parents speak softly at the dining room table while wrapping gifts to put under the tree. These special times are simply some of the dearest memories I have.  I realize as an adult, they all revolve around my family and loved ones.

Its easy in this day and age to take the simple things for granted.  We surround ourselves with electronic devices, cellphones and computers, which although beneficial to our daily lives – can also distract us from what is really important.

This holiday season I’ve made a promise to myself to enjoy the simple things I did as a child.  I will go outside and catch a snowflake on my tongue, I will bake holiday cookies (and eat without guilt), I will gaze out my window-rather than shutting the blinds, I will enjoy cold and snowy evenings by the fire, I will listen to the Nutcracker Suite and I will dance!  Lastly, I will enjoy what the holidays have always meant to me, spending time and making new memories with the people I love.

Uncle Frank and CoCo Chanel

Coco ChanelThe little black dress has been around since the 1920′s when French fashion designer CoCo Chanel designed a practical and simple dress that became iconic. It is usually an evening dress or cocktail dress.

The Little Black Dress and Audrey HepburnThis “day ensemble” designed by CoCo Chanel about 1927 is silk, wool and metal. The dress became a classic as seen in “Sabrina” in 1954, Audrey Hepburn wore a beautiful dress designed by Givenchy.

The LBD is versatile and can be dressed up or down.  We have several little black dresses in our store.  This one is a fun and playful little dress designed by Uncle Frank.

All of the dresses we carry are perfect for a holiday party.  We have dresses designed by Yumi, Dzhavael, Kensie, Hazel and Darling.  You can find them in the store and our online shop at rickrackboutique.com.

Winter Is Here

Pomegranate Candles from Voluspa

Pomegranate Patchouli - Voluspa $29.

It snowed last night!  It was a soft, quiet, snowfall. It set the stage for a beautiful holiday season. The Linden Hills neighborhood had it’s Reindeer Days yesterday with Santa, his sleigh, and reindeer.  We now know December will go fast and there is so much to do, but stop every once in awhile and enjoy the moments that will become memories, like the snowfall was for me last night.

A glass of wine, candles and a fire in the fireplace will warm us even though it is cold outside. We have just received some beautiful Voluspa candles.  They are now in our store and our online shop.  They come in a variety of beautiful colored glass with one wick and elegant patterned tins with 3 wicks for longburning.  We chose some wonderful scents for you such as this one, Pomegranate Patchouli in glass, $29.

Voluspa patterned tin candles, $20.  Other Voluspa scented candles, Frost Pinecone, Crisp Champagne, Fleurs de Fete, Vervaine-Olive Leaf, and Golden Cypress. A beautiful gift for a friend or yourself.
